Technical Name: Costelytra zealandica

General:

Found throughout NZ. The larvae consume the roots of grass and Clover causing poor growth and plant death.

Identification:

Found in soil the larvae are whitish grubs 25 mm long with six legs and a honey brown head. When disturbed they will curl into a C shape. Most damage is caused during March-July. Damage can be identified by patchy areas of dead plants often pulled out by stock. Prefers white Clover but eat most species in pasture.
